While the world is busy exploring the shimmery lakes, wonderful mountains and other magical holiday hotspots, there are some lands which despite the fact being not so attractive normally holds so much of importance and magnificence. Some bizarre lands are sandy and dry, covered with a thick layer of filthy sand yet are labeled as something extra ordinary. Such lands we refer to as “the deserts” of the world.

Have a check of our list of some of the best deserts of the world that we have collected together.

The Sahara Desert

I wonder how this camel survives with such heat; oh there’s a human too…

Not less than any greater desert, the Sahara desert of Africa is the largest and one of the hottest deserts of the world, and it is the third largest desert after Arctic and Antarctica. The Sahara desert covers an area of 9,400,000 sq. km and it sprawls its feet wrapping major areas of North Africa. It stretches from the Red Sea to the East, and the Mediterranean to the North of it. The Sahara desert embraces over large areas of Chad, Egypt, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, Mali, Mauritius and Western Sahara. Most of the desert covers as the rocky edges, the central area of the desert contains just a little or no vegetation.

Some interesting facts of the Sahara desert:

  • It is not the biggest desert yet it the most popular one and the one which everyone refer to as the ‘’grand’’ desert.
  • Due to the lack of humidity, this barren land drops the temperature to the freezing point and often below that too.
  • Each year, Marathon des Sablesrace is organized in the southern part of Morocco which is one of the toughest races.

The Namib Desert

It definitely looks like a mystic piece of land

In the Southern part of Africa, you will meet up the Namib Desert which stretches its feel to over 2,000 kilometres. The Namib was formerly got its name from the word Nama which translates as a vast place, and this adequately defines the Namib Desert. It contains the sand seas near its coast, and the land is completely unoccupied by humans except for some small bunch of settled and rural groups. You will only find a few handfuls of trees surviving in the desert, the temperature is usually versatile but the nights are as chilly as ice. Not only this, a small number of some unusual species and animals could be found in the Namib Desert. Some notable places around the desert are Sesriem, Bogenfelsm the moon valley, the Solitaire, the Skeleton Coast and Sossusvlei. No wonder, the Namib Desert is ranked amongst the best deserts of the world

Some inexplicable realities of the Namib Desert:

  • The Namib Desert experiences 1cm of rain annually so don’t expect it to be a greener place, the land is almost all barren.
  • The desert is well preserved and bordered by some of the national parks including Namib Naukluft National Park.
  • Diamonds are found in large number and are essential jewels of the Namib Desert.

The Black Rock Desert

Wish I could mention it in some other articles as a magical paradise or something

The Black Rock desert is located at Nevada in the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area. The area comprises of over 300,000 acres of land and has more than 120 miles of historic trails; the black Rock desert is also a part of the National Conservation Area. There is a little of human inhabitance found in the desert, the large black rock is used as a famous landmark of the desert. The Black Rock desert remains popularly recognized for the site of the burning man which is a popular event during the construction of the Black Rock City. Major area of the desert is layered with alkali flats and the lava beds.

The Atacama Desert

Why on Earth it is called a desert? I can start living there like today only

The Atacama Desert is the driest of all the non-polar desert of the world. The area occupied by the Atacama Desert ranges to 105, 000 sq.km. Major area of the desert is covered with the salt lakes and stony ground. The Atacama Desert is one of those oldest deserts still known as one of the best deserts of the world which has experienced extremely dangerous hyperaridity for around 3 million years. The Atacama Desert covers the areas of Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

The Gobi Desert

Not the desert, I am currently focusing on those clouds, SCATTERED!

The Gobi desert is one of the large desert regions of Asia; it covers major parts of Northwestern and Western China and the Southern Magnolia. The Gobi desert serves as a rain shadow desert shaped by the Himalaya which blocks clouds carrying rain coming from the Indian Ocean to the territory of Gobi. The Gobi Desert is a shelter to the Mongolian death worm and it contains some prominent cities along its silk road. The Gobi desert is the 5th largest desert of the world. In total, it occupies an area of 1295,000 sq.km.
